SHIPPED · v1.11.1
Office Files, Ready for AI
New
Word, Excel and PowerPoint tools — a new Office section converts Word, Excel and PowerPoint files to Markdown, plain text, PDF, HTML or JSON, exports every sheet of a workbook to its own CSV, pulls out every embedded picture, strips author, company, revision count and editing time before you share, and shows Document Info (properties, word count, headings, sheets, slides, media). Modern .docx, .xlsx and .pptx files are read directly with no Microsoft Office needed, Office to PDF works without LibreOffice, and Settings → Add-ons uses a LibreOffice you installed yourself for .doc, .ppt, .rtf and OpenDocument files. Office and OpenDocument files can be opened with 1FileTool from Finder or File Explorer, and a batch keeps both outputs when two files share a name.
AI Context — hand your files to a model. Convert Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, HTML, EPUB, CSV, JSON and XML to clean Markdown (with optional OCR), see real token counts and which context windows a file fits in the Token Counter, split long documents into token-sized parts with overlap, and pack a whole folder into one bundle with .gitignore respected and secrets redacted. In a Git repository, pack only uncommitted, staged, branch or recent-commit changes with the diff on top; code maps swap file bodies for line-numbered outlines to stay in budget. Copy the result in one click or send it to AI Chat with Ask an agent, run it from Smart Folders and recipes, and reach Doc to Markdown and Pack folder for AI from Home or the new AI Context and Office menus.
More for your AI assistant — through the 1FileTool MCP, Claude Code, Codex and Gemini can now turn documents into Markdown, count tokens and pack a folder for context, alongside 12 new Office and context jobs. Turn on Start when your assistant needs it in Settings → AI Access and a request opens 1FileTool in the background with only its menu bar or tray icon showing; while AI Access is on, closing the window keeps it running and Quit still quits.
A guided tour — first launch now walks through private processing, running a tool, ⌘K search, where results land, automation and the AI features, setting your preferences as you go. Replay it from Home before your first file, Settings → General, the Help menu, or by searching for Take the tour.
Improved
A current, supported app engine — 1FileTool now runs on an up-to-date Electron and Chromium that still receives security fixes, replacing a version that no longer did
macOS 13 Ventura or later is now required — the updated engine no longer runs on macOS 12 or earlier, and Macs on older versions are not offered this update
Tamper-resistant app — 1FileTool now refuses to start if its app files have been modified, and ignores debugging and code-injection settings passed through the environment
Safer image handling — the image engine behind compress, convert, resize and the other image tools is updated, closing known flaws that a specially crafted image or SVG file could trigger when opened
Safer spreadsheet handling — the Excel and CSV reader is updated to a release that fixes known flaws a crafted spreadsheet could exploit to slow the app down or tamper with how it processes data
Downloads refuse a compression format with a known flaw — model, voice and OCR downloads and licence checks no longer accept Brotli-compressed responses, closing off a recently disclosed vulnerability in the decoder
Updated components throughout — the AI Access connection for your assistant, the auto-updater and other built-in components move to their latest fixed versions
OCR keeps its language data — the English OCR data is downloaded once into 1FileTool's own data folder and reused, instead of being fetched again for every OCR job
Fixed
Fixed archive names being treated as commands — extracting a .tar, .tar.gz or .tgz file whose name contained shell characters could run a command; the name is now only ever used as a file name
