New Screenshot section — capture a window, a whole display or a dragged-out region, turn a clipboard image into a shot, or import a PNG, JPEG or WebP; every capture lives in its own library, and the app hides itself before a display or region capture so it never sits in the picture

Pick how you capture from one button — the New screenshot button opens Capture area, Capture fullscreen and Capture window, each showing its keyboard shortcut, and a corner preview appears after each shot so you can edit or save it on the spot; global capture shortcuts start from the menu bar and are rebindable in Settings → Shortcuts

Beautify a shot — drop it on a gradient, wallpaper, blurred or plain background with padding, rounding, shadow and aspect ratio, stand it in a phone, tablet, laptop or browser-chrome device frame in one of five finishes, and add a meme bar, a quote card, a pet or the full annotation toolset (arrows, boxes, text, counters, pencil, highlighter, spotlight)

Export a screenshot as a PNG or WebP still, copy it to the clipboard, pin it above every window, drag it into another app, or hand it to another device with a self-destructing LAN link (optional password and expiry); masking a shot burns an opaque fill or a Secure pixelate into the exported image, never a reversible blur

Motion — animate a screenshot with a camera move (push-in, pan, drift or Ken-Burns) and a particle layer (sparkle, confetti, hearts, snow or dust) at 8, 12 or 16 fps, preview the loop live, and export a smooth GIF or a full-colour APNG that matches the preview frame for frame

Hear your recording — the editor's timeline draws the recorded soundtrack as a waveform, a new Sound panel finds pauses to seek and cut (typing and clicks count as activity so busy-but-quiet stretches are never flagged), and it detects claps, snaps and bright beeps as jump markers that never appear in the exported video

Faster MP4 exports — the editor asks your machine for a hardware encoder and overlaps each frame's work, so a long take exports meaningfully quicker while the file stays identical to the pixel; the export dialog says when there is no hardware encoder and it will render in software. Edit several clips at once — Shift-click a range or ⌘/Ctrl-click to add and remove clips on the timeline, then delete them all in one step

Merge clips back together — a Merge button and right-click menu recombine clips you split, joining only neighbouring pieces that still touch and play at the same speed, with a plain-language reason when they can't be joined
