Scenes that react, and characters you define once and cast everywhere

New

  • Scenes that react. In a 2D scene, one thing can now respond to another the moment it happens: a street light turns green on the exact frame a character walks past it, a badge lights up when the hero crosses the middle of the frame. Named moments ("the light lands") can start other moves and get their own sound.

  • One scene flows into the next. A whole Ink scene — set, character, props and its own camera — can fill a segment, and the next scene picks up where it left off: across a match cut or the new bloom and bloom shift transitions (a colour floods the frame from the hero and recedes into the next scene), the character stays in the same place, at the same size, facing the same way. If it would jump, the check says which scene to move and by how much.

  • Characters defined once, cast everywhere. Define a character once — its colours, proportions, views, expressions and poses — and cast it into any number of shots. It looks the same in every one, and new acting moves (walk, sit, reach, wave, laugh, react, point, hold) wind up and settle on their own. A character that looks like a well-known one needs you to confirm you have the rights.

  • Animate from a reference. Drop in an SVG, picture or screenshot and Ink Studio breaks it into layers you can animate: reveal presets, a timeline with a motion inspector, pivots, a camera, and a fidelity panel that shows how far the animation strays from the original. Export with a transparent background.

  • Pick your format from the composer. Format, look (motion graphics, cartoon or cinematic 3D), style, aspect and length sit in one menu on the composer, and Direct it starts the video straight from the home page. Start from Blank when nothing fits. Drop files onto the composer or attach them from your computer or your assets; they are sorted into the right inputs for you.

  • Choose the look before the full render. Runs stop to show you a look frame and an animatic to approve or swap before the expensive render, with motion sheets that show how every element moves.

  • A bigger library. 40 original props, six rigged characters with faces, eight environments, 230 free sound effects and 16 original music pieces with separate stems.

Improved

  • Faster re-renders. Only the scenes you changed render again; previews render at a lower resolution and the final export at full quality once you approve.

  • Faster 3D previews. The first 3D preview frame appears in about three seconds, and an interrupted render resumes where it stopped.

  • Smoother motion. Every easing curve works in both the 2D engines, camera push-ins feel constant instead of slowing down, and groups can cascade from the centre, the edges, a point, at random or as a wave.

  • Sound on every scene event. Sounds for what happens inside Ink scenes land within a frame of the picture and move with the scene when it is retimed.

  • More checks on every video. The checks now catch a character that freezes, jumps, floats above the ground, is too small or is cut off by the frame edge, and a caption covering a character inside a scene.

Fixed

  • Fixed Ink Studio's timeline showing a different ease curve than the rendered video for ease in, ease out and ease in-out — the curves now match what you get.

  • Fixed floating characters passing the ground check when they cast a shadow — the check now measures the character, not its shadow.

  • Fixed imported pictures with repeated layer names losing layers — each layer keeps its own name.
