The Pointer, Smoothed

New

  • Path and timing are two separate controls — clean the line without changing when the pointer arrives, or restyle its arrival without touching its shape. Path offers Recorded (the captured line with only the sensor spikes removed), Natural (a curve through every recorded point, tremor removed) and Smooth (broader, stylised arcs); Movement timing offers Recorded, Natural or Cinematic arrival, chosen independently. Your click positions and timestamps never move — only the path between them is redrawn

  • A Smoothing dial — set how much of the hand's tremor to take out, separately from the path style

  • Hide for typing cues — the cursor steps aside while a Keys panel “type” label is on screen, so a keystroke label isn't fighting an arrow; it reads only the labels you wrote, and the recorder still never stores typed text

  • Fade when idle — after 1.2 s still the pointer fades out over 300 ms and comes back the moment it moves or is about to click; a recording whose capture already has the system cursor burned into the footage opens with the redrawn pointer off, and says why

  • A rebuilt camera motion — the zoom now moves on a critically damped spring that settles onto its mark without overshooting, tracking the pointer through a rectangular area. Motion presets (Cinematic, Balanced, Responsive) pick its character and Tracking area presets (Tight, Balanced, Wide) set how far the pointer can wander, with Response and Damping numbers behind a Show the numbers disclosure

  • Follow the pointer while zoomed — the crop tracks the cursor once it leaves the tracking area and stays put on the way back out, so the control you just pushed in on doesn't drift off screen

  • Edit a camera move's focus on the stage — turn on Edit focus on stage in the Camera panel and drag the focus point directly on the preview; Centre here aims the move at whatever the pointer is on at the playhead, and Reset to recorded attention puts it back to what your clicks produced. One drag is one undo step

  • Reshape a move on the timeline — drag a selected camera move's handles (arrival, hold end, release end) to a recorded instant; they snap to your clicks, your recorded marks and the clip edges

  • Older recordings render unchanged — a take you've already edited keeps the exact film it exported, and the new motion never rewrites it behind your back

  • Use smooth motion — one button in the Camera panel upgrades an older take to the new pointer and camera; nothing you've masked or cut changes, and Undo brings the earlier motion straight back. New recordings use the new motion by default

Improved

  • The recording clock ticks on its own — a running take's timer no longer re-renders the whole app once a second just to move four digits, so the app stays lighter for the length of a recording

  • Faster to open — the app's icons are gathered into one shared file instead of a scatter of tiny fetches, and the screen-recording editor is loaded only when you actually open it

  • The Record screen says what a Chromium capture can and can't do, up front — when a machine records through Chromium rather than the native recorder, it now tells you before you start: the pointer's movement is tracked for the automatic camera but its clicks are not, and the system cursor stays in the footage, so the editor won't draw a second one over it

  • Settings reopens on the tab you were last on

Fixed

  • Fixed Save preset in the export dialog silently doing nothing when it failed — a failed save now shows what went wrong instead of swallowing the error and leaving the button looking broken

  • Fixed the sidebar Update button appearing to do nothing when a download or install failed — the reason now appears under the button, instead of the press quietly failing with nothing on screen to say why
